New direction?
Had a conversation with my sister - Juei, was talking about my urge to write, my desire to express my thoughts, and everything in literature forms. And she probed a very good question, "Why poetry?". To be honest, i stumbled a little before i began to recollect my mind and toss back a sorta solid reply. Frankly speaking, poetry is a form of literature that presents itself with a series of limits, both personally and universally.
It's bound to the limitation of physical space, both word lengths and supply of cues. However, that at the same time served as one of the wonders why people still write poetry. Due to the limitation provided, it allows more space for the readers to further interpret and relate it regardless of whether there's actually an aim or not that planted within the poem.
To me, poetry is a pretty abstract way of presenting your thinking and addressing ideas and issues in a vague manner. You gets straight forward poems too, some times.. and angst-y lyrics that claims to stand alongside the platform of poetry. Unlike, fictions, stories, novels, poetry don't speak by itself, it speaks through your own imagination and interpretation. There isn't a single aim in a piece of poem, some times, and due to the limited space, the given dimension skewed down to 2 extreme decisions, 1) i don't understand, 2) I don't understand, but i think it could mean this. In poetry, no one can truly 100% understands what the writer is trying to express, as, often there's a substantial amount of emotion and personal experience embedded into that squared, stanza structured piece of writing. It's like an open ended question, but not quite a question. It doesn't aimed to probe, but rather, just to express on its end. A reply from the other side of the tunnel or not, doesn't really matter.
Well, at least, that's what i think. I love poetry, and i still do, i love reading it, decoding it, encoding it, creating one, play around with it, etc. However, recently, maybe due to a long break of not showing my work to the public, there's something in me that says, i want to share my work with more people, not just around me, but maybe even to the world or so on. So, then i asked myself, is poetry still the ideal method of reflecting my thoughts, or should i attempt, at least to express my words through other school of linguistic usage? And probably, this time i could carved in more essence based on my own creativity by not producing materials that generally needs to draw more of the reader's imagination.
Yeah, i think, i mean it this time.. I had a few attempts at fiction. Mainly, contemporary materials, such as thrillers, suspends, etc. For this try.. i thought of giving myself a new challenge, which is to attempt on something that i am pretty much alienated from it. And yes, i chose romance, or.. sort of, as the genre of my upcoming fiction. Pray for my persistence, if you wish to see the end result of it being produced.
cheers
I am so shocked to discover your "new direction"! Haha...
